Information Technology is today driving changes in Indian banks at an extraordinary pace. Although absorption of Core Banking Solutions, Internet banking, etc. have made it easy for banks to capture and store data, banks have not been able to make fullest use of such data for strategic business positioning. To compete successfully in critical areas like customer relationship management, risk management, etc, data silos must be integrated across the bank to create Business Intelligence (BI). It is important for banks to shift from the traditional approach of “knowledge verification” to “knowledge discovery” by deploying Data Mining solutions. This will help them in their customer profiling, and customer segmentation areas to evolve focused strategies to garner new business. The BI tools providing analytics, modelling and forecasting will enable banks to develop a complete and dynamic analysis of all their customers and will also help them in understanding various financial and risk-related transactions that must be reported as part of an ongoing compliance effort.
The objectives of this workshop was to equip the participants to understand and appreciate concepts of Business Intelligence and Data Mining, and application of these Technologies in the Bank
